Guess what I was doing all morning?
Picking raspberries, that’s right! Delicious, nutritious raspberries.
Right now at my grocery store these little guys are running about $5.00 a container, and I was able to fill up 5 containers in less than an hour in my super secret raspberry patch. For an hours work I made $25, if I turn it into jam it works out even more to my advantage, and if I make it into wine, that hours work could have a value of $100.
If you have some spare time I recommend getting a book about your local wildlife, and discover some edible things. It is a great way to spend a Saturday morning with the family, and the best part is that you are saving money while doing it.
Things to look out for in a raspberry patch:
If there are any plants that you and your family gather to save some money, please post in the comments section so that we may all profit from your expertise!

16|Jul|2007 1I am not a raspberry fan. BUT my whole family loves strawberries so we are going to be planting some for next year!

17|Jul|2007 2There are lots of wild plums around here. I don’t even keep up with the cost of plums in the store, but free is always cheaper!
I also pick and eat purslane, dandelion, lambsquarters, amaranth and more.
