My Family is Awesome
We had an 80th birthday celebration for my grandfather this past weekend, and it was a blast. All of my aunts and uncles and cousins were up in the MVP skybox at Lambeau Field, home of the Green Bay Packers. There were also a lot of Grandpa’s friends there, it was a blast.
One thing we really liked though, were the centerpieces, since they each had a different saying that we’ve heard from Grandpa several times throughout the years. I thought I’d share those today.
“Jack, you need a haircut” Jack is my dad, and he always liked to have his hair long and flowing when he was growing up, now he’s bald. Looks like Grandpa got his wish.
“Measure Twice, Cut Once” I know other people say this one as well, but this is like Grandpa’s motto for woodworking, and he’s built lots of very impressive stuff over the years.
“That may very well be true but…” Grandpa’s own little way of telling you that your idea is probably a really stupid one.
“Ahma, this is the best pie you’ve ever made” Ahma is my grandmother, and she makes really tasty pies, Granpa has consumed many of them, and this simple encouraging comment to his wife has helped speed the pie consumption along for over 50 years now.
“Plan your work and work your plan” This has sort of become my motto for financial success. Grandpa got it down to seven hard-to-forget words.
What were your words of wisdom from an older adult growing up? Did you follow their advice or go your own way?
